So much talk about Hope
.
... and so little talk about the patriarchal underbelly of our thinking and creating.
This is the translation of a German poem I wrote over 30 years ago.
It is as fresh as ever.
Humanity continues to create its “creation” story on the grounds of the patriarchal delusion of winning over life and replacing it with the machine, creating our “destruction” story instead.
Welcome to shadowland — the only place where the misogyny of the destruction story can turn into an enlivening creation story.

Between HOPE and LESSNESS
.
By escaping our dungeon it’s no surprise
We disturb the men-made paradise
The age-old blind spot everywhere
That kept us trapped in our despair.
.
Old wounds come to the light of day
This is the price we have to pay
We’re moving forwards toward the light
Although it’s sometimes out of sight.
.
There’s too much which is left undone
When we still go for our run
On this society’s narrow track
The merri-go-round of our alleged lack.
.
What is this hope that Bloch* describes
It’s just like other common bribes
Because where hope outweighs what’s real
We conquer truth and do not feel.
.
What His-Story has sold as hope
Is often just a downwards slope
Leaving what is real behind
So we end up being shadow-blind.
.
Therefore it’s our sincere intention
To bring what no one dared to mention
Out of the shadows onto the stage
Dissolving illusions and feeling our rage.
.
To stop repeating laps of hope
On society’s fatal comfort slope
We’ll speak what has not yet been spoken
Weaving a future which is not broken.
.
To truly transform and not stay in illusion
Is surely not easy in our confusion
Because we learned things do not count
If they’re outside our feel-good ground.
.
Sadly this is how we stay
In our vicious circle play
To stop the program’s endless repeat
More lessness of hope is what we need.
.
So I believe, this is the deal:
We can be whole and will be real
When lessness is as much as hope
alive in us around the globe.

German original version:
Zwischen Hoffnung und Losigkeit
.
Verlassen hab ich mein Verließ
Stör nun das Männerparadies
Das sich kann ungestört entfalten
Wo Frauen sich nicht selbst verwalten.
.
So manche Wunde tut sich auf
Das ist der Preis ich nehm’s in Kauf
Das Alte was dabei zerbricht
Hält mich nicht auf ich will ans Licht.
.
Es bleibt zuvieles ungeschehen
Wenn Frauen Ehrenrunden drehen
In ihren öden Teufelskreisen
Auf den gesellschaftlichen Gleisen.
.
Wo nahm bloß Bloch* die Hoffnung her
Die mir macht eher das Leben schwer
Denn wo die Hoffnung überwiegt
Hat sie die Wirklichkeit besiegt.
.
Was die Herren Hoffnung nennen
Ist oft das bloße Überrennen
Der wirklichen Gegebenheit
Die so im Schatten liegenbleibt.
.
Es ist daher mein festes Ziel
Alles das was in den Schatten fiel
Ins Licht der Wirklichkeit zu bringen
Und Illusionen zu bezwingen.
.
Dazu brauch ich die Losigkeit
Die mich vom alten Gleis befreit
Auf dem ich Hoffnungsrunden drehte
Mein Schattendasein nicht erspähte.
.
Sich wirklich und nicht illusionär
Fortzuentwickeln fällt oft schwer
Weil wie fast alles auf der Welt
Nur zählt wenn es uns auch gefällt.
.
Doch leider bleibt auf diese Weise
Der Mensch in seinem Teufelskreise
Erst wenn die Hoffnungslosigkeit erkannt
Wird vor dem Gleis davongerannt.
.
So gilt es meine ich zurecht
Daß ich erst ganz bin und erst echt
Wenn sich die Hoffnung — sowie auch ihre Losigkeit
Machen beide sich in meinem Leben breit.
